Hans Brezina Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, and Opa, HANS OTTO BREZINA, April 23, 2021. He was born in Linden, Germany, on June 3, 1936. Predeceased by his siblings Alfred, Wolfgang, and Magdalena Deptola, his 1st wife Julianna, and son-in-law Clayton Cassidy.

He is survived by his wife Estela, daughter Rose and son Hans (Tasha), step-daughters Anie and Agnes (Ed), step-sons John (Julie), and Arnel (Grace). Sister-in-law Elfriede Brezina.

He loved his 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, nephew Norman and nieces Petra and Christine.

Hans worked hard, beginning an apprenticeship at the age of 14 for masonry, moving to Edmonton to work with his brother Alfred, a carpenter, then moving to Cache Creek in 1955 to help build the Oasis Hotel. His brother Wolfgang, a plumber, soon followed in 1962. Sister Magdalena stayed in Germany to raise her family and help their parents. He co-owned CC masonry with his partner Fritz Schlegl for many years until he began HB masonry, then 16 Mile Brick and Stucco with John Dela Cruz.

Hans met Estela in Surrey and they married on February 15, 1992. They traveled across Asia and Europe where they shared each other’s culture and traditions with friends and family. Hans loved his family, his work, gardening, and ice fishing.

My Husband, our Dad, and our Opa will always have a special place in our hearts.
