Gary "Bruce" Darough

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, brother, and friend, Gary ‘Bruce’ Darough on Thursday, June 8, 2023.  Bruce was born to Ada and Warren Darough on May 4, 1952, in Regina, Saskatchewan. Bruce attended school in Ashcroft, and he lived his whole life thereafter.

Early in his career as a Heavy Duty Equipment Operator, Bruce worked on the highways department in the Ashcroft area. He switched gears slightly and went the mining route still as an operator working at Highland Valley Copper, then at Cominco Mines in Polaris, NWT. From there, he went on to work for RTL and other companies up north, working on the ice and winter roads. He would build other road and infrastructure projects in the spring/summer months.

He enjoyed creating stained glass works of art for over 40 years. He would sell some pieces and give some as gifts. The Ashcroft Bakery was his ‘hang out’ where he would coffee with his buds, talk about everything and nothing at the same time. He was a great listener, and observer, and accepted people as they were.

Bruce is survived by his lifelong friend and wife Estelle; his daughter Tara (Garett) Rex of Denver, CO; son Dana (Ashley) of Ashcroft; sister Judy Darough of Calgary; brother-in-law Wyatt McMurray; grandchildren Mackenzie, Nathan, Matthew; bonus grandchildren Raymond and Julie; nieces and nephews.

Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Ada and Warren Darough; brother Leslie Darough; parents-in-law Basil and Edith McMurray and Kathleen and Cliff Marklund; brother-in-law Clayton McMurray as well as grandparents.

A service will take place at a later date.
